Waterfowl Hunting

Kodiak Paradise Lodge provides high quality waterfowl hunts. Our specialty is catering to taxidermists and trophy collectors who want the finest trophy specimens available with the best plumage possible. The waterfowl season opens in October around Kodiak, Alaska but our trophy hunts run from December 1st through January 22nd to ensure high quality and quantity. We base our hunts from the remote village of Port Lions on Kodiak Island. All travel between the city of Kodiak and the Village of Port Lions is arranged and included in the price of this hunt.

On our hunts you can expect to have great opportunities to collect Harlequin, Oldsquaw, Black, Surf, and White Winged Scoter, Barrow’s and Common Goldeneye, Common and Red-Breasted Merganser, Greater Scaup, Bufflehead, and Mallards, along with many other types of puddle ducks. Many collectors and taxidermists are impressed with the plumage and size of our local puddle ducks. Eiders are always on the top of our hunter’s list, but we don’t want you to come on this hunt expecting a Pacific or King Eider. We do take a few Eiders on our hunts, but Eider populations on Kodiak vary year to year depending on the ocean ice conditions in the Bering Sea.

If you desire, your hunt could include some sport fishing. Opportunities to take a red, silver, or cross fox are also common while hunting waterfowl on Kodiak Island.

You just can’t beat this hunt! We hunt from dark to dark with a comfortable heated 32’ tender boat with private bathroom. This, combined with Layout boats (built by the Mighty Layout Boys from Hobart, Indiana) lots of decoys, and great retrievers make our hunts comfortable and full of adventure while keeping you safe. Plus we have lots of fun! You will be catered to all day. You will NOT be dropped off at some rock and checked on later - this is a full service, high quality hunt.
